LeDomduVin: Château Haut-Bergey 2005

Chateau Haut-Bergey Pessac-Leognan 2005

Opened tonight, just because 😁👍🍷
Soft, warm, inviting nose with ripe dark fruits aromas mingling with fresh eucalyptus and menthol notes and earthy nuances. The palate is also soft, warm, ample, generous, silky, cozy, and comfortable, balanced with similar flavors as in the nose, lingering through the long and pleasant finish. The taste is very characteristic of the warm vintage 2005, yet with enough freshness, balance, texture, and structure to make it really pleasurable. Love it.

Cheers! Santé!

LeDomduVin: Club des Sommeliers Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueuil 2018

Club des Sommeliers

Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueuil 2018

Funny enough, looking at some pictures from about a year ago, nearly the same day, I realized that I also bought a bottle of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueuil.

Obviously, January must have a subliminal effect on my love and occasional craving for Cabernet Franc wines 🍷 😋 👍😁

Last Sunday, after biking until late in the afternoon, with my daughter, we stopped by a French gourmet store, in TKO, bought a few groceries and my eyes fell on this bottle from the "Club des Sommeliers".

I don't think I've ever tasted a bottle from "Club des Sommeliers" before, so I took it to try. And, coincidentally, I started writing that post about "Sommelier" earlier that day (see my previous post on the subject from a few days ago). I guess that bottle inspired me the rest of the post that day while sipping it with some charcuterie.

The wine had nothing extraordinary, and, at that price, nothing extraordinary was expected, nor anything unexpected or wrong either. It was just a nice, quaffable, and approachable Cabernet Franc, fairly harmonious, well balanced between the fruit and the acidity and the tannins.

The tannins are present, and add to the structure and texture, yet are integrated and not astringent. The fruit is also ripe enough to please the palate, provide a juicy attack and mid-palate, and prevent the green vegetal and astringent edges some Cab Franc are renowned for.

Nice and quaffable, as I was saying. It went perfectly well with the saucisson.

Cheers! Santé!

NB: It is important to always keep a saucisson handy for any occasion at home.

Vin du lendemain...

Vin du lendemain...

Château Fortia Châteauneuf-du-Pape "Cuvée du Baron"2017

I bought this bottle the other day, late, at a local supermarket, as I needed a bottle for a last-minute event, for my son.

I must say the selection at the local supermarket near my residence is really unimpressive, really bad I should say.

However, amongst every other uninspiring bottle, I found this bottle, which was really the only one that talked to me at the moment. So, I bought it.

Of course, my son forgot to bring the bottle to the event... so, I found this poor bottle alone in my kitchen and I could not leave it like this. I had to open it to give it a purpose. Yes, I know, I'm nice like this, I never let a bottle down or on her own. 😉

And the verdict: it is way too young to drink now and will take time to fully develop and attain its full potential. So, after drinking a glass of it, I decided to wait until the next day (today), to check if it would be better.

And, 24h later, Hallelujah !!! (alleluia), even if still too young and still presenting a firm tannic structure and texture, it tasted much smoother, tamed, and integrated than the previous day.

Boasting dark berries and fruits, pepper, earth, a touch of spice, and more earthy notes and minerality, with oaky, toasted, and mocha nuances.

It paired really well with the saucisson, as the fat mellowed down some of the edges of this wine.

My advice, (for what it is worth), if you buy some, let it seats in your cellar for a while, as it is still too young to be enjoyed now. Yet, if you cannot wait, double decant it or open it and wait for the next day, it will be so much nicer.

Cheers! Santé! And Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones.
