LeDomduVin: Tonight's wines

Tonight’s wines

Philipponnat “Clos des Goisses” Champagne Extra Brut 2012

Bone dry, mineral, zesty, fresh and crisp, generous and nicely expanding, with a lovely balance and a touch of salinity in the long, savoury finish. Pleasantly surprised. Loved it.

Bernard-Bonin (BB pour les intimes) Meursault vieilles vignes 2019

Young, light, elegant, almost shy,  with a nice attack, good acidity, an ample and round mid-palate, yet vanishing a little on the finish. Well crafted and balanced, overall charming. And yet, I would have loved to get a bit more substance, texture and structure. A bit light and timid for my taste and palate. We double-decanted it to boost it, as it is such a young wine. It showed better after a few hours of opening. That said, I still liked it a lot, though.

Anne Gros Echezeaux Grand Cru “Les Loachausses” 2019

Enticing nose of freshly crushed cherries and mineral, earthly aromas mingling with floral and peppery notes. A beautiful, complex wine in a light, elegant and refined way. Surely too young, it showed great potential to age for many years. Loooooved it.

Once again, a lovely trio.

A “clin d’艙il” to Monsieur Olivier Halley (@ohalleyphoto), a fan and a follower of my page for the past 7 years (thank you, much appreciated 馃檹馃榾馃憤馃嵎), whom I had the pleasure and the privilege to meet and chat with, for the first time, face to face, as he was one of the guests of tonight’s dinner. Thank you 馃檹

Gordon & MacPhail Linkwood 25-year-old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Strong and smooth simultaneously, sophisticated, elegant and layered without being heavy or harsh. Nice discovery.

Cheers! Sant茅!

Pays d'H茅rault - Vin de Pays - Languedoc (Minervois)

Tasted yesterday at lunch, it was a very enjoyable surprise. 100% Cinsault from a parcel of 1 hectare of 50 years old vines planted on sandstones and marls. Vinified in a Burgundian style and aged in stainless still tanks, no oak, this wine blends the savoir-faire of two renowned and talented winemakers from Burgundy, with the richness and uniqueness of the terroir of Minervois. The result is a refined Languedoc wine with a very Burgundian profile, taste and texture. I love it.

Domaine Anne Gros et Jean-Paul Tollot "La Cinso" IGP C么tes du Brian 2015
Pays d'H茅rault - Vin de Pays - Languedoc (Minervois)
Average Retail price around HKD165 (or about 18 Euros)

Attractive youthful red ruby colour, clean, clear, light to medium intensity, with some sediments (surprising for 2015? maybe not as I do not think that this wine underwent any filtration).

The nose is enticing, fresh, clean, a touch mineral, boasting fresh yet ripe red berries and fruits aromas (Raspberry and Strawberry definitely come to mind, yet, I also had an impression of Maceration Carbonique nuances like "Fraise Tagada" (strawberry candy), it was amusing). Very joyful nose actually, with ripe yet light and fresh notes.

The palate is soft, gentle, ample, ripe yet fresh, fruity, juicy, really well balanced (lively with a good texture and structure), focused and expanding very nicely and harmoniously from the beginning to the fairly long-lasting finish.

The notion of playfulness and freshness was very vivid in my mind of both the nose and the palate while tasting it.

Very inviting and approachable I must say. Straight and focused, yet far from being serious and austere or severe. On the contrary, this beautifully crafted wine is juicy and really easy-going, with a refreshing attitude.

The type of wine that definitely commands another glass right after the first one, as it so enjoyable, agreeable and easy to drink. Well done. Love it.

A no brainer for those who never tasted a 100% Cinsault (more especially old vines) and even more so at this price around HKD 165 or 18 Euros.
