Cheers! Santé!

LeDomduVin: Rosé mood...

Rosé mood...

It is spring, and yet, another weekend with crappy weather, here in Hong Kong: grey, sad, humid, windy...

I needed some colors and warmth, so I decided to buy some Rosé wines to brighten the mood.

The #rosealltheway case (by "Vines and Terroirs") has a nice selection of easy drinking and quaffable Rosés:

- Château d'Astros "Amour" Côtes de Provence AOP 2020

- L'Escarelle "Rumeurs" Méditerranée IGP 2020

- "The Lunar Collection - Harvested at Moon"  by Château d'Astros Maures IGP 2020

- "Minuit Rosé" Vendanges Noctures by Château d'Astros Côtes de Provence AOP 2020

- Château des Marres "2S" par Gartich/Benet Côtes de Provence AOP 2020

- Le Cellier de l'Amitié "Les Cavistes" Méditerranée IGP 2020

And the "Brin de Lavande" is nice too, bringing a touch of Provence into the house.

Thank you @valentinmaurel #charlessoulisseplou @vinesandterroirs and @winest.hk for combining your skills and experience: good quality wines, great prices, and fast delivery in less than 1 hour. Looooooooooove it.

Cheers! Santé!

LeDomduVin: Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth Day

by @ledomduvin 2022

There is only one earth, it is our home, and, so far, the only planet where humans can live. Thus, we ought to nurture it, preserve it and keep it safe from harm.

As the human population continues to grow, pollute and destroy exponentially on daily basis, by clinging to bad habits and adopting wrong attitudes and behaviors, with a huge lack of interest to change things for the better, preserving the earth must be today's main priority with immediate attention and actions.

Since the first COP ("Conference of the Parties" to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change), back in 1995, we have heard the same things over and over: we must reduce plastics, reduce carbon emissions, reduce the use of fossil energy sources, reduce pollution, use cleaner energy, better recycle solutions, alternatives, prevent climate changes, prevent temperatures from rising too high, etc, etc...

Nowadays, 27 years later, we are facing exactly the same or even worst problems than before, as well as more frequent and more violent "natural" disasters every year a little bit more, and we still face all these problems with no efficient and durable solutions, and no will to turn things around apparently as it is not lucrative enough for the governments.

There are more plastics used now than ever before, for example. And the list is endless...

When are we going to understand and do something about it? When are we going to realize that we need drastic changes now in our everyday attitudes, behaviors, demeanors, and manners towards our own planet? When? Human nature sucks!

In fact and in truth, the daily efforts of a minority to change things for the better are in vain and are reduced to nothing due to the inactions and lack of interest of the majority, (including most governments). And, to a certain extent, how can we blame them for not caring enough about climate change and pollution, and others things, when they already have difficulties making ends meet and other worries are occupying their mind on a daily basis.

"There is so much hatred, war, and poverty" as the "Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes" song goes. What is happening to the human race and how it is impacting all the living (animals and plants), everywhere on earth, should be a call for people to wake up, engage, and make a difference, to face these challenges.

I have said it many times before and will continue to repeat it:

"Humans do not try to find solutions to the problems they create, they only adapt to their consequences" - Dom

Happy Earth Day to whoever is doing something every day to preserve the earth a little. Every little bit helps.

Take good care of yourself and stay safe and give some love to each other 'cos that's all we got.

Peace

Dom

Little game: how many hidden events, movies or comics references can you see?

LeDomduVin: The 5 Basic Tastes

The 5 Basic Tastes

by @ledomduvin 2022

I know, I know, there are thousands of pictures and images about the 5 basic tastes on the internet... I know.

Yet, as you know, I like to put my creativity to good use and I love creating my own images, illustrations, and other digital and visual content myself, instead of taking the work of someone else.

In my opinion, if you have a little bit of creativity, some imagination, and a bit of time, creating your own is so much better,  as it is extremely satisfying and rewarding, and always comes with a certain dose of pride. 😀 😉 👍🍷🍷🍷

As you know, I love drawing and creating digital drawings, visuals, and artsy or cartoon images and illustrations for my blog's articles and posts, as well as for all my accounts on social media.

So, unhappy with what I could find on the internet, I decided to create my own. Pretty cool, isn't it? 😋😋😋😁👍🍷

I have also put this illustration in the article about Salt in wine, that I wrote on my blog, back in 2010. If interested, you can read it at

Cheers! Santé!

LeDomduVin: SALT 'N WINE (illustration)

SALT 'N WINE

by @ledomduvin 2022

I have just created this illustration for an article on my blog that I wrote back in 2010, and that I revisited tonight, after realizing it recently received a lot of comments I never took the time to answer.

As you surely guessed already, the article is about salt and wine, salt in wine, iodine, salinity, and other saltiness. 😁👍😋

Do you mind a slight salty taste in your wine? Personally, I don't. I even found that rather pleasant and savory to my palate.

As you know, I love drawing and creating digital drawings and images, and illustrations for my blog's articles and posts, as well as for all my accounts on social media.

By revisiting this post, I realized it didn't have any illustration or picture as a header, a good excuse for me to create one. And, here it is. 😁👍😋🍷

If interested, you can read the article for which I created this illustration, HERE.

Cheers! Santé!

LeDomduVin: Bordeaux vs Burgundy

Bordeaux vs Burgundy

by @ledomduvin 2022

As mentioned in my previous post, I have prepared a Bordeaux vs Burgundy class presentation. And, as usual, I like to share the slides with you. 😁👍🍷

Each slide is trying to define the main differences between these two world-renowned regions and their wines.

Of course, these slides are non-exhaustive, and a lot more could have been added. But, remember that only some key facts are on the slides, the rest is said and discussed during the presentation orally.

When you do everything yourself,  driven by passion and knowledge, it is hard to try to be detailed enough, while being concise, for the slides to be both informative and easy to grasp and understand at first glance, without being too convoluted.

However, I tried and here they are. Hope you will enjoy them and that they will, at least, be useful and informative.

Feel free to comment, it will help me to get better, and encourage me to do more presentations and create more slides. Thank you! 😁👍🍷

Cheers! Santé!

And, here is another illustration about Bordeaux vs Burgundy, that I have created 2 years ago, for another article/post. I feel that also belong here. 😁👍🍷

Drink responsibly, and, in the meantime, stay safe and take good care of yourself and your loved ones. And give each other some love, 'cos that's all we got.

LeDomduVin: Burgundy Wine Regions Map

Burgundy Wine Regions Map

by @ledomduvin 2022

Still preparing some slides for a "Bordeaux vs Burgundy" Wine Class, and, once again, as I could not find anything I wanted on the net, (either too detailed or not enough), I decided to create my own map.

While creating my own map and drawings/icons for the slides, I realized that:

- It is not as easy as it looks, and therefore takes time, and attention to details.

- It is not so easy to compromise on the details, and decide what to put on it or not, when creating a map or an overview with icons and numbers, to make it easy to grasp and understand at first glance, yet, to also be detailed enough to provide you with the essentials.

However, I tried and here is the result. Hope it might help and even be useful.

Cheers! Santé! And drink some wines, it is good for you (responsibly of course), and you might save a producer.
😁👍🍷🍷🍷

Big thoughts to all the producers fighting against a wave of late frost, these last  few days, with temperatures going way  below 0°C, in the vineyards, in France (and elsewhere in Europe), for the 5th consecutive year.

Climate change is a real thing and this wave of late frost is now a recurring problem that might become the norm.

A disaster damaging and reducing crops, putting some people out of business and pushing prices up due to small production and thus lack of availability and stocks for the last few years already.

Until when the producers will be able to resist and survive? It has been a recurring question on everyone's lips in Burgundy and Bordeaux (and elsewhere in France and Europe) for the past 5 years already...

Good luck to them all. And let's buy their wines to help them.

LeDomduVin: Champagne Prematurely Popping (**) (Number 124 on Feedspot Top 100 Wine Blogs)

Champagne Prematurely Popping (**)

by @ledomduvin 2022

Celebrating number 124 this year, on Feedspot "Top 100 Wine Blogs". And that's because of you all my readers and followers, so a HUGE THANK YOU to you all.

Like every year, around the same period, I just take a quick look at the Top 100 Wine Blogs on @feedspotdotcom.

And, every year, I'm always very happy to continue to see my blog still listed there.

To give you a few numbers, I have created this Wine Blog in August 2008 (soon to be 14 years old) and since then, it received 1,265,866 visitors (as of today).  That roughly corresponds to an average of:

-  90,420 visitors per year
-  7,535 visitors per month
-  250 visitors per day
-  10.5 visitors per hour

Not bad for an independent Wine Blog, isn't it?

Very proud of it.  More especially, I had a down period between 2013-2016, (4 years), during which I barely wrote or post anything, as I was busy with my job during the week (even at night) and very active during the weekends too, with the kids during the day and often working at the restaurant or wine events at night, on Fridays and Saturdays (Sommelier life😁👍🍷 ).

A few years ago, out of the 215 listed wine blogs (*), I was oscillating between 80 and 95 (number 85 in 2020), and last year, I believe I was 118, and this year number 124.

Which is definitely not that bad, considering both facts that

- This list (of 215 blogs) includes the best wine blogs on the web (from thousands of wine blogs), ranked by traffic, social media followers, domain authority & freshness.

- My blog is just an independent blog on which I only post very occasionally, don't spend much time on it, and from which I absolutely get no money and no other advantages whatsoever either.

That's why I am very happy to still see my wine blog listed, and it encourages me to continue to write and post and create illustrations for it, like this popping Champagne bottle I created for this occasion (**).

Thank you again to all of you for your support and encouragement, and for keeping this blog alive. And thank you to Feedspot.com too. Much appreciated.
😁🙏👍👏🍾🥂🍷

Merci beaucoup,

Cheers! Santé!

Dom

For the Feedspot "Top 100 Wine Blogs" go to @feedspotdotcom on Instagram

(*) It should be the "Top 200", instead of 100, no? It would make more sense somehow. 😁👍🍷

(**) Disclaimer: This illustration "Champagne Prematurely Popping" is a work of fiction. Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events, is purely coincidental. (Get the joke?) 😉😁🤣🤣🤣
